Why HA fillers are a popular alternative to plastic surgery

istock 1146106730 The early signs of aging that are often the first noticed is that of fine lines and wrinkles. The face can look much more aged than the rest of the body, due to the fact that it is exposed to the environment and elements every day. Sun damage and poor skin care can contribute to the natural process of aging that occurs and results in skin laxity and the formation of wrinkles and folds. However, facelifts alone are not the only way to improve your appearance. Many patients who visit with Dr. Dimitrios Motakis find that they might be able to delay the need for plastic surgery with minimally invasive alternatives such as hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.

What is an HA filler?

HA stands for hyaluronic acid, an ingredient that is incorporated into a gel carrier and is injected into the wrinkles and folds of the face that need to be filled and smoothed. Also known as dermal fillers, these injectables are popular for younger adults who are noticing changes to their skin. It can provide results without the need for surgical intervention, and provides a solution that works for several months before reinjection is required to maintain the results.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are safe and effective and are used by many of our patients who are not quite ready for invasive surgeries. While there are some patients with severe skin laxity that are not good candidates for fillers, many of our patients are. In fact, sometimes patients come into our practice considering a facelift but find that this solution is faster and more affordable! We can assess a patient’s current condition and make recommendations regarding this or other treatments that might be of assistance.
