- Stimulates cellular turnover
- Decrease in pore size
- Virtually no downtime is required
Who Is A Candidate For Microdermabrasion?
This treatment is suitable for all patients who are not pregnant or breastfeeding and is cleared and safe to be used on ALL skin types including very light and darker skin tones.
It is not advised for those with severe acne or those who have used Accutane in the last 6 months.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
When it comes to microdermabrasion the best results come from multiple treatments. The recommended protocol for optimal results is 3 sessions at 4-week intervals. After these treatments are complete, usually maintenance treatments are required once every few months.
What Does The Procedure Involve?
During a microdermabrasion treatment, your skin is cleansed and prepped to ensure the smooth passing of the handpiece. Fine crystals are used to gently sandblast the skin through a handpiece, exfoliating the skin, removing the top layers of the epidermis and stimulating the growth of new skin, providing a brighter softer appearance. As the handpiece is passed over the skin some patients feel a stinging sensation. Moisturizer and sunscreen are applied to your skin before you leave the office. The treatment takes 45minutes in total.
Side Effects Of Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a painless procedure and no anesthetic is needed. Mild redness along with the feeling of sunburn can be expected for the first few hours.
When Will I See Results?
Results should be visible immediately after treatment. To achieve the best results, it is recommended that patients have three treatments spaced at 4 weeks intervals.
Can This Treatment Be Done The Same Day As A Botox Or Injectables?
These treatments can be combined as long as microdermabrasion is performed prior to botox and filler.
Can I Get This Treatment If I Am On Accutane?
No. Accutane must be stopped for 6 months prior to this treatment
Can I Continue Using Retinol Prior To Microdermabrasion?
It is recommended to stop any products containing retinol one week prior to treatment and can resume one week after.
When Can I Return To Normal Activities?
Overall, Microdermabrasion will not require much downtime. You can resume normal activities within 24 hours after the treatment. Swimming and sun exposure should be avoided for a few days after this treatment.
Do I Need To Do Anything In Preparation For This Treatment?
There is no need for any preparation before microdermabrasion. It is recommended to stop using retinol and glycolic acid products a few days before to avoid skin irritation after the treatment.
