Read What Our Patients Are Saying!

“I am forever grateful for the existence of this man. He is the most kind, honest, patient, professional, and detail oriented individual I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. He has operated on me on a number of occasions now, and has basically held my hand throughout the entire experience - beforehand, during, and post-op. To be honest, Dr. Motakis is the only doctor I would allow to come near me with a scalpel. I highly recommend him to anyone out there considering any kind of reconstructive surgery. His office staff are also absolutely wonderful, especially his nurse Ruth, who is very helpful, lovely and personable.”

Who Is A Good Candidate For CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is intended for healthy adults who have stubborn pockets of fat on one or more areas of their body. Though effective at reducing subcutaneous fatty tissue, CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss tool. The process targets localized deposits of fat cells only and do not affect the skin. Ideal candidates are within their ideal weight and have good tissue retraction.

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

CoolSculpting treatment is based on the science of cryolipolysis. Studies have shown that fat cells are highly sensitive to cold. When targeted with precise temperatures, these cells break down and crystallize. In this form, they die off. The damaged cells are flushed through the lymph system within a matter of weeks.

What Areas Can CoolSculpting Treat?

Cold-temperature body-contouring is commonly performed on areas including the:

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Back
  • Bra area (back and underarms)
  • Arms
  • Thighs (inner and outer)
  • Beneath the buttocks (banana roll)

What Is The CoolSculpting Procedure?

CoolSculpting should only be performed by a licensed healthcare professional who has completed training through the manufacturer. The device has several applicators, each of which may be used in particular areas of the body. Applicators look somewhat like vacuum cleaner nozzles.

To prepare for treatment, the provider applies a gel pad to the skin. This acts as a buffer between tissue and the cooling panels. An appropriately sized applicator is then applied. This applicator will gently suction tissue in between panels that will then administer cold temperatures into subcutaneous tissue. Several minutes are spent sitting or lying comfortably while the device uniformly delivers freezing temperature to the treatment area.

While undergoing CoolSculpting treatment, patients can expect to feel a slight tugging on their skin at first. As tissue is permeated with cold, mild aching or tingling may occur. Within a few minutes, these sensations fade into numbness. Most patients describe their CoolSculpting experience as comfortable.

What Are The Results CoolSculpting Can Achieve?

Patients can expect to notice changes in their body in two to three weeks after CoolSculpting treatment. The reduction of fat cells that are stimulated by the procedure continues for up to six months. We generally expect the cosmetic improvement to peak at about 12 weeks post-treatment. According to market research conducted by the CoolSculpting manufacturer, 79% of patients stated their clothes fit differently as their results progressed.

A few treatment sessions are typically needed to reach the desired outcome. However, once this has been achieved, no further treatment may be necessary. A healthy lifestyle can support the results of CoolSculpting for many years.

Is There A Recovery For CoolSculpting?

There is no downtime needed to recover from CoolSculpting treatment. Normal activities can be resumed immediately after the procedure.

What Are The Potential Risks And Side Effects Of CoolSculpting?

Cold-assisted lipolysis has been studied extensively. During clinical trials, there were no adverse events reported by those treated with the CoolSculpting device. Additional studies indicate that the release of fat cells through cryolipolysis does not increase fat levels in the blood. The body safely flushes the affected cells without much effort from the liver.

The most common side effects of CoolSculpting include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Aching
  • Tenderness to the touch
  • Skin sensitivity
  • Numbness
  • Bruising

These side effects typically resolve within a few days.
