Hair PRP

As we age and go through hormonal changes, thinning hair happens to everyone, including women. While there’s no way to entirely stop your hair loss, there is an option for preventing hair loss by preserving the follicles that remain. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a non-surgical procedure for people suffering from alopecia, hair thinning or male pattern baldness. Plasma is a component of blood which is full of healing and growth factors. When injected into areas of hair loss, it can help strengthen follicles and increase the quality and thickness of the hair. PRP will strengthen and thicken existing hair but it will not replace lost hair.

Benefits of Hair PRP

  • New hair growth
  • Stronger, healthier looking hair
  • Virtually no downtime is needed
  • As your own plasma (extracted from your own blood) is used, it is a relatively safe technique with very little chance of reaction to the plasma. This means it’s the ideal procedure for anyone who feels worried about injecting foreign substances into their body.

Who can have this treatment? What results can be expected?

Hair PRP treatment is suitable for patients with areas of thinning hair or weak hair growth, who still have functioning hair follicles. Hair PRP is not suitable for patients with complete hair loss or bald scalps, as PRP cannot help grow new hair on a bald area. PRP can only make the existing thin hair thicker by strengthening the hair follicles. This treatment has been shown to be very effective for both male and female pattern hair loss and thinning.

How many treatments will I need?

The recommended protocol for optimal results is 3-4 sessions at 4-week intervals. After these treatments are complete, some patients may require maintenance therapy once or twice a year depending upon the severity of hair loss.

What does the procedure involve?

Firstly, blood is taken from the patient; it is then centrifuged to separate out the plasma. Plasma is a component of blood which is full of healing and growth factors This plasma is then injected into your scalp using an injection device. The injection device is used to penetrate the skin to create tiny channels to allow access for the plasma to enter your skin and hair growth is naturally stimulated. The technique of injecting PRP is virtually painless with the use of the Pistor injection gun and the whole treatment takes about an hour.

What are the side effects?

As your own plasma is used, it is a relatively safe procedure with very little chance of reaction to the plasma. However, it is possible that a person may have irritation, pain, or bleeding related to the injection site. Most patients experience post-injection swelling during which their scalp remains somewhat pink and numb for a few hours.

When will I see results?

Results become noticeable about three months after the procedure, although the full effects may not be visible for about 6 – 12 months.
